Re: TAPS
Three months is not such a very long time...

He is gone.  His parting words were, "I'll see you in three months."

Re: Ciel
I don't think a lot of people really get that... that these soldiers, each and every one, made a conscious choice to do that, to offer their lives for something they value more than their own lives.

Re: Ciel, you're right about the Marines...
For the most part, I think you are right about this... though I had a brother in law for a time, who somehow got to be a Marine without any of that getting through to him.

Krisles, thanks!
I spent a long time ignoring all this, comfortable in decisions I made without knowing anyone who chose this life.  I had to finally take another look at it when I discovered a good friend in a soldier.

There are always so many voices denigrating the military, which is why it's so nice to read your positive and encouraging words!

Whatever the complex issues with the various conflicts in which your soldiers and ours find themselves, I have the highest respect for the young men and women who want to serve their country, and in doing so lay their lives in the line.

Ciel, you're right about the Marines...
They are tough. But when they're not on the battlefield, the Corps' high personal standards makes gentlemen of boys, men who respect themselves and others who deserve it. Semper fi.

What a great read, even for those of us who don't have a loved one going into the military.....I have faith that they get this training and have this leadership, but I haven't personally done the investigation you have and it's great to read this information....what a great friend you are to share this!

Ah, this I can understand!

Thank you ciel.
I'm not really afraid.  I just know that I'm going to miss him so while he's gone.  He's been my only Kansas City grandson for his whole life.  Phil came to KC when he was a late teen and even though he loves his grandma, because of his problems he is not the companion that I've had in Peter.  So, you see, I'm basically just being selfish in not wanting to let go.
