LMAO!!! Ahh the good old days!!! I too remember, only ours was the '69 Buick wagon, with a third row seat that faced the opposite direction. Making pulling motions to the truckers so that they would blow their horns............

What a hoot, strat!! As an only, I had the luxury of stretching out in the backseat and reading during our travels.....or leaning in between the front seats to join in the adult talk or listen to a radio show....all in peace.....but your stories are ones I've heard many times from my friends and were the excuse my uncle gave for why he only brought his 4 kids out to see us once a year....these exact scenerios. So, I feel like I was there......kinda!
Hey, did you happen to see this years CMA show...the one Kid Rock emceed? I caught a rerun of that last night, too.....and it ended with this incredible performance by Keith Urban and John Mayer.....OMG! Talk about blisterin' guitars.....and it was like sex for them to the point that when they were through they were reaching for each other's strings and then rubbin up against each other while still playin'....the cameral panned to Nic Kidman in the audience and you could tell she was just like "what can you do" on her face....the audience was hootin' and howlin'......I mean, they really got into it!!!! It was fantastic!

Glad you got a kick out of it, Sam!
Although I must admit, educational videos is a novel way of re-inventing pea shelling!

I can't imagine willingly engaging in such an act of self flagellation -- my respect for my parents skyrockets to even higher heights when I think about some of those trips...

Dad had a reply for that one, Taps.
"Stop your crying or I'll give you something to cry about." It applied to virtually every objection from the backseat...

The backseat was never big enough! and I only have one sibling...
And those cars from yesteryear were huge, but lil' brother could still breathe on my candy or toys, lol..ah, sweet memories you evoke, Strat. My kids were real road warriors on long distance trips; fighting like cats and dogs halfway through, wearing themselves out and then sleeping the rest of the way. They would be ready to party all night, haha..

Terrific, highly enjoyable writing as always.

I loved it. LOLOLOL. You wouldn't believe what all I did to keep four boys busy from MO to OR or CA. Wouldn't at all mind having a $ for all the times I heard the words, "Are we almost there?" in the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's. I'd be set for life.
