My grandma said "Waste not, want not." I wonder how many western civilizations will be "wanting" in the future?

Absurd indeed..if we could band together more and really communicate
I think we'd have a chance of turning things around. It is to the benefit of a few elites to have the country so divided and broken...big bucks stay safer that way, but when they are of little use and all that matters is human spirit and the ethic of treating our planet and humanity as the priceless assets they are, then I think sanity will prevail. Not to say we should just sit back and wait though!
Excellent post, dsm.

American greed or greed in general? BP's disaster affects the US and the
world and BP is not an American owned company. I say this 'accident' is equal to an act of terror in its far-reaching devastation. Sure BP says it is going to compensate but how do you put a price tag on the lives of sea turtles and dolphins? How do you pay off a person whose livelyhood has been taken away? Maybe the living they were making from the beach or the ocean, say shrimping, or a waterfront restaurant, is all they have known. What will they do? It may not be the end of the world yet but it is the end of someone's world.

I am not an economist, therefore, I cannot say whether "this is it" so to speak. I do find we Americans to be quite wasteful though for the reasons listed.

I thought the US had already gone down from it's superpower status when it bankrupted itself over the odd diversion in Iraq after the dictator was toppled. I guessed it just might not like to talk about it. I went through some mental anguish and even imbalance,
watching it take place.

This is a very fair post aia believe...difficult to do when people
are passionate about their beliefs.....worried and yes frightened.
It is normal for the biggest and brightest star should bring with it much jealousy and yes hate even. You have it...me too me too and then any behaviour less than perfect is latched on to and discussed and unforgiven. I have travelled in Europe ..especially Greece...been a local.....I have been worried for many years about world attitudes to my beautiful USA....not my country but beloved and admired always.
