Auslander
Sounds like a nice party, with typical party debates! I would think that aside from university types you also have a lot of federal civil servants in your area, people who tend to be reasonably well paid...

sounds like you had a great party and enjoyed it. I wish I could have

tasted that cake, especially right now with my tea.

From what I know people live in their world and reality, and it doesnt matter what you do or say he will still believe only in the world he sees. So I would invest my energy in more productive places.

I am very happy that your party went well! I love the various views of other  folks! It does make for great conversation! The housing market and assessed values are tumbling in my town, but the areas where the wealthy reside seem to hold their value! sam

Perhaps they have Texas Congresman Syndrome
On Capitol Hill in DC, people would let there place go unrented or unsold for years waiting for a "serious" renter or buyer.  I used to kid it was because they were waiting for a new Texas Congressman to come by and throw money at them to rent or buy their run-down place.  But it was probably not far from the mark.  People get it into their heads what is "fair" and would rather go without rent money or bitch and moan about the real estate market than face reality.
