- Go to The Decline of the Payphone
Good Post.
My Cellphone Doomsday prediction is that someday we are going to wish we could find a pay phone. Just the other day I lamenting how much my ear aches from rubbing on the stupid cell phone I wish I didn't have, and how nice it would be to leave home without it and just bring 50 cents with me instead.

This year I have seen some more pay phones taken out in town. I'm not sure how many are left, but don't think there's many.

This is quite thought provoking FSI but the last time I used a payphone was from the hospital recently when I forgot my cell phone!!

Land lines as well
are dwindling. A lot of people I know are giving up their land line rather than pay for that and a cell phone. Just occurred to me. . . where would Superman change now that there are no full sized phone booths????

Only place I still see them are international airports

It is amazing not to be able to see them! I can remember waiting in line as a kid to use one! First the full booths went by the wayside and not the ones attached to businesses are disappearing, too! You are right, today's youngsters will never know the phone booth! sam

Yes, the cell phone killed the pay phone.........that and when pay phones went to a quarter for five or ten minutes of talk time. Their prices went mobile.
