Thanks for making us aware of this! You are doing a great service for us Verizon users out there should somebody try to prey on us.

dsm - Lucky you have the accounts all accounted for. They do try to scam anyone and everyone these day. Quite bold they are probably because they cannot be traced. Thank you for stopping by.Glad you liked the poem.

Watch for this
This is really bad dsm I hope this isn't the start of Robojacking. A good job that you had second thoughts, I let all my calls go through the answering machine which reveals the names of usual contacts and I don't pick up the phone if the person who is (withheld)  refuses to speak, it is frustrating, but some ring and ring, one gets used to it in time. I would get a nice bottle of wine to celebrate.

I am so sorry this happened to you, even if you did get ahead of them.
These are the lowest of low. I will listen until I see if a call is legitimate. If I don't know them and I don't trust the caller I simply tell them they have reached the Secretary of States office and ask if they are looking for telephone call investigation. They usually don't call back.

Re: Re: and how did they know my balance & that it was past due?
Did you tell Verizon this when you called? Sounds like it's someone from the inside.  It would have to be.

Sorry you went through that.  You can call your local police and ask them what you could do to report these people though I got to tell you they are nearly untraceable and untouchable, Probably operating pout of Uganda or Bombof#$%$ck...  That is so terribly sad.  Thank G-d you were smart enough to check right away.  But poor t hose people who didn't  :-(  xoxoxo

Every day there is a new scam around and it really is scary
I think most of us have only just enough if that and a bad scam is really a scary thought. Wiley as you may know has just beaten one fromthe Internet....glad they didn't get you.

wow that is freaky there are so many scams, but that sounds really legit, I wonder how they knew you had Verizon

Actually not
Giving it to a real person over a machine will not make a difference.  Any time you get a call or e-mail like that, if you actually think it might be real. DON'T use the phone number or link provided there.  Use the phone number, web page or e-mail you already know is their legitimate contact information for that company and find out if there really is a problem.  Never give out that kind of information freely, to people or machines.
