HEY DARSON!!!!  LONG TIME NO SEE!!!!  I'm so glad you're back.  I was beginning to worry.  I'm not much of a parade person...too noisy and crowded for me.  I do think of our veterans and others on Memorial and 4 July and Labour Day...and so many other holidays.

Thanks for this post.  You've reminded me again how truly fortunate I really am.

Salutes to the flag have always moved me. The only time I see it now is before the hockey games - I feel my heart swell as both American & Canadian anthems are sang, the flags waving around on the boards. I love parades too and, as usual, you had me sitting right beside you, sharing the tootsie rolls, smelling the manure, and grinning at the thought of it being right behind the politicians. Great write!

Nothing wrong with well tempered patriotism, a wonderful thing really.

I love to stand and hold my hand over my heart...........and I am from silly mean old Arizona. Still love the flags and know how you feel about politicians, but politeness is to be taught, no?? Heheheheheh, with the kiddies there.

Love the smell of horse droppings in the parade streets, we have a rodeo parade and it gets quite odiferous.

I love a parade! I am amazed that folks cannot stop to show the proper respect for our flag as well! sam

These days it seems the flag means more to more people than
it did a generation or two ago. It became a much larger symbol after the attack on Pearl Harbor, much more meaningful again after 9-11, no matter what dissenters think of the politicians. It's our country, after all and we've all lost someone who fought for it.

Parades a wonderful way in which to unite the town. They seem to get lost in suburbia nowadays. Reading this makes me want to experience one again.
