I am not too familiar with dog etiquette. I say go with your gut instincts on the matter. Seems like most if not all agree with you.

He was thoughtless and insensitive. If he had been female, he would have instantly noticed your dilemma and done something with his dog. But blokes! No sensitivity.

The Guy Just wasnt Thinking...

and with all due respect...you think too much,  which I believe could be causing your high sensitivity.

But keep on writing.

Lustor
Do you ever watch the 'Dog Whisperer'? Caesar is his name, his advice to you I think would be to use confidence and let your dog know you are the leader. It is up to the man to do the same. There is no written rule that a huge dog will eat tiny dogs. It is up to the owner to see that their dogs are well behaved just as it is up to parents to see that their children behave well. Those dogs were well aware of your dogs long before you saw them. You were the one with fear, not necessarily the dogs. I know what you did was the usual happening but not a necessary one simply from appearance. I hardly think all who own big dogs are of a lower class than those who do not. There is a different story with those who only own attack dogs. If those you saw were attack dogs you have more than a dog problem in your neighborhood. Love you and hope you will not be afraid for you and your dogs.

No people with big dogs must know that your smaller dog could be hurt.....
bully dogs and bully man...and middle class sure don't mean classy. Money can buy a person the trappings of wealth but you can't buy manners.
