She used to buy worms for it from the pet store and keptthemin the fridge. It was a red fish they called it Tsunami....and if you showed him himself in a mirror his color would go deep deep red and his fins would fluff up....he was quite cute.

Brian Gabber, the kid I tutor, had one until it died the other week. I like this fish. Definitely not the typical aquarium fish.

Bettas are beautiful fish...  Of course it's the males with the long fins, but some females have brilliant enough color to make up for fins.  Mine usually last about five to six years.  I have a fifteen gallon aquarium just for a betta.  Plants can be placed without dirt.  There are small bulbs that can be dropped into the water and they grow fine.  My fish haven't bothered the plants.  For alge and waste control, you can get a cory-cat.  They are small, bottom feeding catfish.  They are dull, so the bettas don't bother them.
