- Go to Ed Koch speaks out about Israel...
I lived in a NYC commuter town when Koch was mayor and I've seen him speak (right before the last presidential election at our JCC), and I'm on his email list (which is where I saw this essay first). Someone in the audience asked who he planned to vote for in the upcoming election and he, a lifelong Democrat, voiced his endorsement of Obama with caveats. He voted for Obama and so did I (given the impossible choice), but I'd probably abstain from voting if I knew then what I know now. Koch was under the impression then that since Obama has chosen Emanuel (half Israeli) as right-hand man and had the strong support of the Jewish Chicago movers and shakers that he'd do right by us. But throwing Israel under the proverbial bus tells us more about the guy - and he's loosing supporters left and right. To single out Israel for all the worlds problems reminds me of 1930's Europe. Lets hope not....Mal

Re: THE TRUST WAS BROKEN BY ISRAEL -- NOT OBAMA.
Xeno, the reason I no longer debate things with you has less to do with the fact that you rarely know what you're talking about, or even your rather tenuous grasp of history and logic, but more with the way in which you conduct yourself, as can be seen again in the last paragraph of your comment...Have a nice day...

THE TRUST WAS BROKEN BY ISRAEL -- NOT OBAMA.
On the eve of peace talks over the fate of the West Bank, where moderate Palestinians were to have met, where U.S. representatives were to have attended, and apparently representatives of other countries as well, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announces more building in East Jerusalem, a slap in the face to the American President, who opposes such. This also incensed the moderate Palestinians, who were hoping for some respect from Israeli authorities (you have to note that not all Israelis agree with Netanyahu's stance
For more on Obama/Netanyahu relations, See:
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu yesterday strongly defended Jewish settlement construction in East Jerusalem in the face of U.S. pressure and
... " You have to remember that the formation of Israel in 1948 was met with open warfare with the surrounding nations, and an Arab paranoia of things Jewish. Jordan may have takenm those actions, but after centuries of Jews living peacefully in Palestine and East Jerusalem.
You and many fundamentalist Christians live in a "time and space bubble", where actions of only a certain time and of a certain bent are real. Problem is, that's like shining a flashlight only on a certain part of a dark room -- you only see what the flashlight illuminates. Problem is, if you'd go to the wall and turn on the switch, the whole room would be illuminated and there would be the whole picture (if you would accept it) that would be quite different from the one you are painting for yourselves.

I lived in New York when Mayor Koch was Mayor, although I was young
I remember him being very liberal and very democratic. I am impressed and thrilled that he is speaking out. As you commented on my blog that the silence is deafening, and it is exactly what the Jews of U.S.did when Hitler was systemetically killing Jews. However, this time I dont think they will peacefully march to the death camps. Obama, of course, has been very predictable for a man who spend his youth in Musllim schools. I dont know what else we can expect from a man with that kind of education. Youth in fanatic muslim schools, and adulthood with rev Wright lol, the perfect combination.

To abandon Israel, in my humblest opinion, will be our demise as well! Shelly

This is all very unsettling... what can one do if those who hate what is going on do not speak out? I hope copme election time they let their vote speak for them... and as for Obama's corageous stance??? Talking bad about friends and then bowing to the Chinese is not corageous in my book, rather distateful disloyalty and brown-nosing if you ask me. Great post as always Naut

I must say I am terribly disappointed with the Obama admin.
I had high hopes, as did many Americans, but I am left with a deep sadness and disappointment. I am not Republican, by any means, but now I feel, I am not Democrat, either, just another confused, f****d up American.
