I've never been tested and had to do a home project. I've never asked or been asked to do one. Normally Dad just pays somebody to do it if it cannot be fixed without a tool.

Sanding or stripping the chair first is the most important part of the entire process. Stain is meant to be 'absorbed' by the wood. If the oil stain doesn't dry as it is, wipe it all down with varsol or turpentine, do it outside and let the chair dry. Then you can use a water based liquid stripper after which it will take very little sanding.

You're a lot cleverer in this respect than I am. I wouldn't know where to start, and then wouldn't have the courage to get going! I bet you'll be left with a really lovely chair - I can just picture you, rocking back and forth..

Good for you lady. I used to be really good at that sort of thing. I can't get on ladders etc., now and I just suggest where the things go and what needs to be done to them and George is very good with them and many without having suggestions. I bet the rocker is beautiful
