I know that a revolution is in the works
and I think that perhaps the states of the union will have to divide, just like the soviet union collapsed, but I just dont know when. This is a very informative blog and gives you much to think about. all i can say to you is thank you for putting that information together, as sad ignorant americans are celebrating the end of health care and the begining of gov. medicare :(

Just a quick thank you for all your comments on my posts. I hope that you would read and like the article about the whirling dervishes...and you did. I'm a bit in a hurry now, so will read this post carefully later.

Remember that the Golden years of Greek democracy lasted about

twenty years before it fell apart.....we lasted longer than that.

As for modern day Greek riots...I have been there ....about 15 times and witnessed.... car bombings......public property destruction.......The demolition of the American bases, the American Embassy picketed and bombed ...president Roosevelt's statue knocked down.....I forget how many times......riot police everywhere ...strikes, marches, Gov.theft, President Bush refused entry, Oh and President Reagan telling  his fellow Americans not to go to Greece because they had expelled the American forces.

Now what else have I experienced first hand.... Communist spoken hate for America, blaming America for flue epidemics so that they...America... can sell the worlds populations expensive medication,.... every year a garbage strike in the heat of the summer. every year without fail...it was a joke.....

I had a lot of fun in Greece, had some good friends and adored my little Mother in Law...this is not a diatribe by a bitter old woman emotionally bruised, but a first hand experience of what was just normal modern day Greece...so my friend ....look for another example other than Greece....a culture other than one that thrives on drama and submarine violence.

I am not certain that we have little to show for it! The US includes the scores of the school population and if one is deciding the 'show for it' then all countries who are ranked should include the full student population! Another consideration is the US has a large proportion of students taking tests that are in a language other than their native one! Further, the US lags behind Finland in the 'ranking' per science, but it feels like comparing apples to oranges when Finland has a population of 6 million and the US some 300+ million! That is not to say that things are perfect, the inner city needs attention in a most dire way. Just my humble thoughts since I spent my career in education!  Shelly This is an excellent series!!!!!!!

It is amazing how much we have spent and have so little to show for it. I just wonder when the proverbial crap hits the fan and what will happen with so many getting dependent on the government for everything.

As far as I can tell, this new Health Care bill will not change my own coverage, but forms a safety net for those unfortunate enough to be laid off or with pre-existing illness.  Most people have forgotten that the "trillion" number was inherited by Obama from his cut-taxes-and-launch-two-wars predecessor under whose watch sub-prime mortgages and Bernie Madoff thrived.  So much for "conservative" policies.  If this is what Republicans want to return to, (letting the single mom with three kids who has just been laid off to fend for herself. Public support, Bah Humbug),I'm happy to take the liberal, more humane route.....Mal
