You bet! MY father used to take me down to the parades regularly - we'd get as close to the front of the crowd as we could, and then he'd shoo me the rest of the way forward until I was right at the curb Memories of the music and the uniforms stayed with me for days.

If I'd known more history when I was twelve, yes, I would have been on my way there, too. As it was, I was just in love with the sound and pageantry. I've never forgotten it or completely gotten over it. This is one of those poems I call "getting it off my chest."

Oh man, I was right in there - a 12-year old in love with drums and parades. In two years, I became a snare drummer myself in my high school marching band and was in THE PARADE three years.
