I was going to ask how he got up there if he didn't have a long enough ladder, but I see you've already answered that one. Thank you for this post Pat. It is entertaining and so down to earth. It's a long time since I heard (or read) the word 'chimbley.'

I figured that would be the most likely way to get up there, but then looping the rope around the chimney becomes problematic, given the professor's fear of heights and the rope dangling from his feet, if the chimney is, as usual, further up the roof than the window.
