As your friend, I would just like folks to know that you are one of the kindest, knowledgeable, and caring individuals I have ever known. Now, I simply read you, digest what I can and wait until someone else solves the problem. Nostradamus seemed to think Arab's will solve it for themselves, so my comments are just to let my friend know I was here, appreciating his writing skills and knowledge.

It has been so interesting reading this entire series......
If you decide to make it into a book......then movie.....can I have the toy rights?
Sorry.....I wandered into humor.....I hope that doesn't mean I'll be on a hit list.
Your delivery and management of this series should be applauded. Everything you are saying is the truth, and beneficial to those not aware of what is going on around them. You are a beacon in the darkness!

Bravo Naut. That was a direct and brave response that perhaps, hopefully will end the babble torrent that has "graced " your comment pages lately. Lets hope as you said we have all learned something, specially that "those people" is not a phrase that should ever be included in a debate and that "agreeing to disagree" is not a scape hatch when one has been told off. One agrees to disagree when both parties have gotten to the understanding that their positions are too far apart to be reconciled... That is certainly the case here except that there has been so much flip flopping ... and so many different things have been brought into the mix by your opponent that I don't think anyone knows for certain where she stands so "agreeing to disagree " begs the question... "bout what".. The danger of the terrorism threat??? the Koran's encouragement of jihad?... wife beating??? The Koran's encouraging of it??? ... All of it??? You get the idea... So much to agree to disagree about words seem inadequate to express the differences in thought here... Anyway... hopefully is over and she will respond as she said a post or two ago in her blog... giving your readers anises for punishment to go there to read her comments. There is no need or excuse to insult others in a debate... and saying you do not mean to offend does not really absolve one from fault. Perhaps at least that will be learned from all this and she will take with her the elegant and knowledgeable way in which you conduct yourself. Be well my friend xoxoxo

Dear Naut,
I am sorry my choice of words offended you. I wrote the comment in a bit of a hurry; "people like yourself" refers to those who, in my view, rushed to a judgement of Islam without considering all of the complexities of terrorism and religious extremism. I was not inferring they were/are racists or bad people or that you are either. I don't know you personally and I try to stay away from labeling people.
This debate does seem to be a repetitive exercise that feels pretty frustrating and pointless. I am satisfied with agreeing to disagree. I thank you for responding and again, no offense intended.
Btw, I am not actually a liberal, according to other liberals I know - I do think Islam has a dark, dangerous side that must be addressed, as it is expressed by radicals who have twisted it into something that to the Muslims I know personally is unrecognizable. And I'm pro-life to top it all off!
