Hi Naut,
Mice make me nervous.

So many presuppisitions regarding women! I have known a few that would not hesitate to take someone out! It just seems to be a control thing when rights are not given equally across the board! Shelly

Did you see the American Muslim on TV today? Phew, that should open some eyes, he said what they are all about. No paranoia there, just the daily news.

I'm standing on the outside looking in.
Great view.

Staying Away..from the "I" word!..: )....

Final thoughts, Naut..(promise, lol..)

I have not studied the Koran in-depth, I will give you that. The problem with translations are determining which one is the purest, as in as free as possible from the translators religious and/or cultural influences.
But what may or may not be in the text really doesn't matter when you get right down to it - what is a religion and it's writings? Just a grouping of declarations and teachings supposedly derived from a higher power/creator. It is the followers who breathe life into it, with their reactions and beliefs.
And I do know this, from what I've seen all my life - religion is less about conformity than it is an individual's personal adaptation of their chosen faith. People pick and choose all the time which scriptures or passages address what they feel in their hearts and what they deduce with their minds - slavery is spoken of approvingly, for example, but I know of no religious person or non religious person, for that matter, who believes it is morally right. Similar to your wife beating, women as second class citizens example - yes, there are extremists who believe it is allowed, but they are in the minority - they do not represent the whole of Islam and what millions of Muslims live day to day. I guess that's part of my argument with your perceptions/research/work - they focus almost exclusively on the most extreme elements as if they were the true voices of a people.
Comparing Islam to other religions is not going off track, it is about being balanced and fair minded.
But I take comfort in knowing your views and those like yours are not in the mainstream; I think the majority of people try to live and let live in reason and hope.
This is what I know, from the deepest well of my awareness and if that paints me as ignorant in your eyes or anyone else's, I'll deal with it.

The more I read the more concerned I become over a region of the world that due to technology is becoming closer and closer to us. I just hope the moderates can figure out a way to get their voices heard.

Again you have made quite clear the enormity of the problem  we are dealing with Naut ... and once more I enjoyed your quoted excerpts because they plainly demonstrate the hate and ignorance that these clerics promote.   It is disappointing though, that you have to waste precious time answering baseless comments...  when there is so much more you could be showing us,  but hey, I guess that is the nature of a debate and unfortunately you have no control over the knowledge or intelligence of those who comment on your posts...  Who knows... perhaps something you say will make a dent in the wall of regurgitated propaganda  that makes up their beliefs... or as I heard someone put it  recently ...maybe you cam be "a lighthouse in the immense bay of their ignorance" ( loll ) we can only hope :-) Be well my friend  xoxoxo

I do not find moderate Muslims victims! They are cowards of their own making!
