Hazel
I have the sense that this poem really describes you - plucky, with an indefatigable spirit...I'm sure its' almost a self-portrait

This reminds me of a story.
Cricket,
This sounds to me as though you knew my friend Craig, back in the day! One night, he was SEVERELY overserved, at the local watering hole. He had driven there, although he only lived about two blocks away, on the other side of US-23. Even in his state of intoxication, he knew enough to leave his car in the parking lot, and stagger home, on foot. The next day, Craig was asking around, trying to learn who had taken him home. I had him believing that everybody had gathered at the front door just to watch him cross US-23, (four lanes of interstate highway) on his way home. I told him that most of the bets were, that he would make it.
I said that some sob-sister was jumping around and screaming that SOMEBODY should do something! She was certain that we were all just about to witness Craig's bloody death! I assured Craig that I had calmed her by saying, "Don't worry about Craig, he does this almost every night." Then I confidentially confided to Craig, that I had experienced a moment of blood chilling panic myself! I told him that from our angle at the door, and the street light placement, it actually looked as one though one of those speeding cars, had run over one of his hands, as he hurried to make it across the last lane.
Craig believed that story for several days, until he began seeking out people that he remembered were at the bar that night, and apologizing to them. From there on out, he figured out that I had snookered him. AHHH! Good memories!

That's what it's all about! Learning from our mistakes. I can relate to this poem so well, and I imagine others here can too.
