Personally, I think he "confessed" because he was broken down through torture, drugs, lack of sleep and interrogations. His purpose for going into North Korea was to bring to light the concentration camps and cruel treatment of their people. He also was trying to bring God's love to them. If he is now saying that they are not treating people bad, and he was wrong - why?  He thought this out for months and it was not a whim. He also did it in faith and believed it to be the will of God. So, why would he need to repent?

I'm glad they'll be releasing him. Whatever it takes to get out I imagine I would do.
