Re: 3 bets
I equate with your experiences related to grading essays.  The year I taught eighth grade language arts, I was notorious for doing the distance thing  on Sunday afternoons and evenings. I enjoyed your response to the poem!

This pushed some buttons for me!   I once achieved a lot of distance from a decision I had to make by - don't laugh! - taking hot baths and drinking a lot of beer.  And most of my life I've been an English teacher who, when weekends came and I was supposed to be grading kids' essays, got distance from them by suddenly getting an all-absorbing interest in household jobs I hadn't done during the week.  Anything would do - garbage, plumbing, shopping, clipping my nails, etc. Then I got wise to what I was doing, but that's another story.  A very fine, witty poem!  Thanks!
