Cynthia:

I was at that same Macy's in downtown Boston a few weeks ago!  And I remember it did seem bleak - I'd never been in a Macy's before, but always thought of them as rather THE definitive department store.  So when we walked into this one (looking for a restroom), I remember looking around and being completely underwhelmed.  Very disappointing.

And the fact that they actually recommended you go to Walmart as an alternative - I would have thought the two stores were in different retail leagues!  Not even competing with one another, really.  When I imagine the customer base of Walmart v. Macy's I picture entirely different demographics.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

From a corn field bumpkin
stuck here in the loony middle country, I very much enjoy reading about your "city" life.

Yeah, blogging at my work too.
Hope the landlord saga has come to a satisfactory conclusion.

Kaytray, always nice to get a comment
from you. Makes me feel connected with life beyond
the city limits.

Majroj, Thanks a bundle for that URL
I'm blogging at work today. Unusual for me
but the home computer has been down
the past two days.

nuff said.

We turn our attention inward (DVD, computers, TV, home gyms, Amazon.com), so we wind up working for WalMart or the government or E-bay because we let them take over.

Thank heaven we at least go outside the home for fresh DNA or to "hook up" (that's the term, no?).

I call it Wal Wart
They are spreading like ugly warts everywhere in my area. We have a super center 20 miles away and now a new one is being built 5 miles away. Unbelievable. There are protests over the new one because of out- of -state, non-union labor being employed instead of local construction companies. Same old corporate, greedy crap. We finally raised enough money to install billboards (which I normally detest) announcing their shameful behavior. We're at least embarrassing them, hopefully. Good post.
