Yes, it means that I studied to be a teacher, and in my specific case I decided not to be a teacher during this phase.

Interesting post and leads me to ask you what a Former Student Intern is. Does that mean in the U.S. one is an Intern studying to be a teacher? With writing like this perhaps rethinking your moves may be beneficial when so many teachers are needed.....
