Nita dear...
I'm amazed at the kind & informative responses below..this is definitely a unique blog-site and I'm thankful for having found it. I'm reasonably sure that India's major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore have most if not all the medical technology & medicines available today anywhere in the world, in fact they are emerging as the leading destination for "medical resorts" and one of the largest inventors and exporters of pharmaceuticals. A lady entrepreneur in Bangalore not too long ago became a billionaire based on her pioneering research & drugs..I believe her name is something like Shaw-Mazumdar?Please explore deeper and you'll find whatever the right treatment is for Ashish. You've our prayers, you brave lady! - Ash

I also came over from elinjo's blog - I know I haven't been reading you much, I have a limited time for reading here on Blogit, and I'm sure there are many people I would enjoy readin - but them's the breaks, I guess.

Anyway, a few years ago I had kidney stones in both kidneys (one of them actually had two), and they were ultimately smashed by sound. It was a hospital procedure, under anaesthesia, but only took a few hours and I was out of the hospital and back home the same day. I then passed the small bits, which I have kept in my medicine cabinet as a memento, lol.

Now, we're talking about Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where we've got all the latest in medical technology available. But you might want to check around to enquire if that procedure is available in your parts...

Incidentally my doctor told me that I probably got them because I eat too much cheese...

Needless to say, I wish your son the very best...

Nita,

I hopped over here from elinjo's blog, having not read you much but planning to more in the future!

I have had kidney problems all my life, as a child missing weeks of school at a time due to infections.  Although I've never had kidney stones (that I know of, have had some resistance to peeing, could have been a stone), I do know of a few things that have helped flush my kidneys out when they're "clogged" or sluggish:

100% pure cranberry from Knudsen's is best, but I know you can't get it, so the next best thing is 100% pure pomegranate juice.  Cranberry juice works by attaching itself (its molecules) to bacteria and then carrying them away through the urine.  I suspect pomegranate works much the same way.

Yogi detox tea (preferably decaffeinated) has also helped to "flush" my system when I have overindulged and messed up the balance in my urinary systems.  It contains burdock root and dandelion.  It tastes a bit bitter, but I find honey helps soften it, and honey is good for you anyway.

I have also heard that alfalfa juice, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice can help dissolve stones, but these can be very acidic and thus hard on the stomach.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your boy.  Best of luck to you, Nita.

Miriam

I have just posted a rather long article I found for Natural treatment for Kidney Stones. I knew grapes were but many of these I knew nothing about. I hope they can help. Seek your doctor's advice if you don't know about these. Praying for you both.

Nita, I'm so sorry to read this bad news. Having arrived late I can see that others have given you lots of advice, so perhaps the following, although it seems to be a very good site, is superfluous.

My love and best wishes to you both.

Oh Nita, I didn't know all this..so sorry to hear..
All of the suggestions below are good. Also, have you tried Ayurvedic remedies? Some of them can be quite effictive. Both of you are in my prayers and healing thoughts. - Ash

Re: your question about boiling the purified water -- "Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapour condensed. Distilled water is free of dissolved minerals and, because of this, has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them."  I don't think that boiling alone would accomplish the same results.  Also, distilled water is not good for long-term use for drinking.  I would think your purified water and the lemon juice should help and cranberry juice if you can get it.

I sure hope Ashish is fine and the stones break down on their own.  Cranberry juice - excellent for flushing out the kidneys.

I just stumbled across your post....

and hope this info might help. There is a treatment that removes stones without surgery that my fatherinlaw had that was effictive for him. I do not know the risk for a person with only one kidney. The information can be found at the following site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extracorporeal_shock_wave_lithotripsy

I will be praying for you also! Keep Looking Up! Dan

He needs to drink lots of distilled water with fresh lemon juice added throughout the day.  Distilled water does not have the minerals that build up in kidney stones.  Also cranberries help.  Fill your blender with raw cranberries and cover them with distilled water and blend on high.  Then let it set for a time before straining.  Have him drink that often.

I've no idea about the medical facilities in your part of the world, but...
Snowview,
Do your medical clinics have access to one of those ultra-sonic trypto-somethings, that send painless, bloodless, directional shock waves that impact the stone, and break it into small pieces, (pulverize them in many cases) allowing them to pass painlessly. I suspect that you have cutting edge technology available to you there, too. It will probably be recommended by his physician, or it may have been considered and rejected as impractical, or unlikely to work, but still it might be worth asking about. Surgeons sometimes consider cutting as the only option, solely because they are surgeons.
      Hope this helps.
