Pat
It's f-f-f-freezing even here in Toronto, where we are used to (relatively!) mild, if uncomfortable winters, LOL! But it's good to know that your lovbely daughter
still creates some Florida sunshine...

Well, Pat-B, we Quebecer Canadians thrive on the winter - ski hills and hockey and all that. But for people not used to it, I can imagine it can be unpleasant. Congratulations on your daughter's achievements. A chip off the old block? I remember hearing once that the world is turning some each year, that eventually Florida will have our winters and Canada will just be a huge lake.....

Pat
I wonder who she takes that from?
Not too bad here, Pat, but my Scottish buddy was telling me it took him two hours to get out of his street. The weather over there is just what it was like in the '80's, '60's and 40's, when winter wasn't just a name. A neighbour we have who lives behind us has returned after a month in Myrtle Beach.
He said they only walked on the beach three days. They thought about moving to Florida but changed their minds. Decided that they could be warm and have more room to move in by coming back home instead of living in the Winnebago.

I've spent more money on thermal undies this year
than ever before... and more time in them, too! Puget Sound is also not used to the kind of cold we have been getting--though it has warmed considerably since our pre- Christmas arctic blast.
Whatever the causes or cures--if there are any--whether local weather or general climate, we adaptible human beings had better get busy adapting to conditions we don't expect.

It's freezing here, also Pat.
Japan is also suffering freezing temperatures this year, Pat. No one dares pee outside.

We're having the coldest winter for decades. The lakes near me are frozen nearly solid and the ducks and swans are congregating in the few parts that have yet to freeze. The icebreakers have gone into action to keep the inland waterways clear of ice. In this part of the country though there have not been any days off school. Due to normally having mild winters children do not have sledges, skates and skis as they did when my daughter was a child.
I hope you are managing to keep warm too. Thanks for this up-date on your situation. It's awful for the Florida farmers you mentioned and of course your daughter and her partner.

Pat, it's very sad when the southern states that provide us with such
delicious fruits and vegetables are threatened by freezing temperatures...

Awesome. I can't help wondering if all of Kansas City's homeless people are in out of the cold. Son says he saw a news clip of a puptent up under a bridge on the west end of town. That makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
