I believe it was a part of Canadian community tradition, Auslander.
As TAPS said, it seems to happen rarely now.I do believe in it however, and feel much shamed that I didn't take the time to do it for our new neighbors. The lady is teaching me a deserved lesson.

I don't need the pounds on the butt - it will take longer to go around me than jump over me soon, LOL!

The good with the bad, eh TAPS?
Maybe the trick of it is to draw some sort of invisible line, and each neighbor learns where to stop in the friendliness..which is before it gets nosy?

Tanks, Sam
I'm a sucker for childhood memories - I have so many of them. Can't remember yesterday though...LOL. Mouth watering does not add calories - so I should have stopped there.

I remember when we arrived in Uxbridge, ON, Canada, a group of citizens brought us a basket full of local and hand made goodies! Such a nice welcome! never got that ever again anywhere. Nice memories. Nice goodies.

Very interesting neighbors. Very seldom are neighbors, these days, as neighborly as they were when I was a kid. Actually, I'm not quite sure I want them to be. There was some nosiness involved in that. LOL
