Naut....
I think we should understand that people reoprting these events on the major outlets are very skilled in the ways of manipulatiing words......I think they were fully aware of how the usage of assassination could change the reader's perception of what had happened......

I applaud your efforts to encourage what is believed to be 'non-radical muslims' to voice a complaint against the violence of other Muslims. I don't believe there is such a thing if they are still Muslim and adhere to the Koran. In the US we have had the worst year ever of violence (except of course 9-11) by Muslims. Five young men recently left college, going to Pakistan to become Jihadists. Everybody said what wonderful young Muslim men they were and were citizens of the US. I contend a Muslim is a Muslim at some level. They will not turn on the murdering radicals, so it makes them radicals in my mind.

Assassination did sound quite awkward when using it to describe the death of the lady.

Those that consider it (the attempted murder) an honor are surely guilty of having a heart filled with hatred and murder.  But, I'm sure that somehow they feel pure in their religiosity.

sinister..... assassination conjures up thoughts of MARTYRDOM.don't know why.

If I were talking about a politician I would use the word assassinate. In the case you mentioned of the woman who was found dead in her home I'd use 'murder' or possibly 'manslaughter', it would be inappropriate to use the verb to assassinate.

In my eyes when somebody assassinates a politician, the assassin is just as despicable as the murderer of the helpless old lady you mentioned.

Can you be sure that moderate Muslims have not criticised the press release that you mention in this post?
