Re:adnohr
Hi adnohr! it is incredible to think how huge those machines were, and they didn't have the computing capacity of your modern cell phone.

Re: What would we do, if terrorists set off an EMP and fried ALL electronics?
Hi Guy, I am about 10 years younger than you, I missed out on all of that free love stuff. Drat!

I worked on those big machines, Muley, and did they ever make a racket!! Never understood them though - someone would say "Press this big key down, then hit that one, etc.." and I actually got it to work. Had a good memory then, LOL! Thanks for this - a look back!

What would we do, if terrorists set off an EMP and fried ALL electronics?
Mikey,
My father went straight from high school to IBM, (back in the 40's!) He stayed there for 13 years, before going to General Motors, and worked in data processing his whole working life. Suits, white shirts & ties, and plastic pocket-protectors! NOT a mod look!
Unlike him, I very nearly missed out on the whole computer revolution, because I found those geeks to be far too nerdy for my tastes, it was the 60's in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I went to junior and high school with Bob Seeger, for crying out loud.
I guess that most of the class of '63 were torn between becoming suit-wearing robots, and being "northern rednecks," if that is a proper term. I very nearly missed out on all the counter culture experiences, too! Luckily for me, I have younger siblings who dragged me kicking and screaming, into the enlightenment of modern times, and I caught up with everybody else, sorta.
I'm glad that I at least know how to express myself, via the PC keyboard, but I wouldn't have missed out on being a part of the paisley colored 60's, spent in Ann Arbor, and Boulder Colorado, for anything in the world, though.
Coulda done without the ex, who I met in Boulder, though!
             Guy
PS I took a correspondence course called "Basic punched-card computer processing," aced it and made my dad happy, but it was drier than the SAHARA, I hated it, and I never went further, as Dad would have liked me to.
