Tzippy, though my point is more that the problem is legalization of marriage per se, that the motive of marriage is not happiness (gay in its original sense which I am punning on) through profit or pleasure or anything that the legal system can get a handle on. So the legalization of gay marriage will be just as disastrous for gay couples and additional fodder for divorce courts and lawyers. On the other hand, if we can keep out of the legal scrutiny of the courts the sad and sorry marriage which is all the more loving, when we can in that way "legalize" it, we are then de-legalizing all other marriages as they are better than what the legal system deems the worst.
Which is why this complicated thought works better as a poem.

not only because our sorry state of the marriage in the world, but also because marriage is the foundation of social order, without marriage what have got left? well maybe gay marriage will be better lol
