Naut, the poem from start to finish is a masterpiece...
and well-worth getting through the first gate. Maybe it's time to post the entire thing again... I have bought at least two books of Auden simply because they included this piece.

I couldn't get past Auden's date, Sept 1, 1939, the second time within a generation the lights went out all over Europe...
