Red, White & Blue
Nice post. You might enjoy a book I just finished - "Red, White and Blue" by Susan Isaacs. It's a novel set in Teton County, Wyoming, which explores the phenomenon of armed white supremacist/anti-semitic groups. Oh, and it's also a good love story.

ginnieb, I'm learning from Shawn too
and also from you. It's great when you
find the voices of people who actually
read, write and think.

Sometimes a Sledgehammer is Needed!
You know what, Cynthia? For forty years I lived less than sixty miles from that state. Forty years. And here is what I discovered:
Wyoming is the most bigoted, backward state in the Union. Hands down. It makes Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia look like the freakin' Parthenon. No joke. I know this from experience and from travel.
The people of Wyoming have refused, for over thirty years now, to understand the Republinazi agenda: to see how badly it hurts them and their land-based economy. Dick Cheney, that model of Republinazi ignorance and greed, got his start there. So did several monster, ugly corporations like Kroger and Halliburton. Wyomingites have been lost in a dusty, cold haze of hate, hypocrisy, and blind obedience to the Republinazi screed for almost as long as I have been alive! But like you said, it now may be changing.
There are pockets of free thinkers in Wyoming, believe it or not. They live in Jackson, or as close to the Colorado border as possible. They don't talk about their beliefs. They saw what happened to Matthew Sheppard. They know the hate is well-ingrained.
Excellent blog, my friend.
