No one should get upset because you are making a lot of sense. As I see it,  it comes down to the fact that we do not understand the mentality of those we are fighting and think, as we often do, that they are going to play by our rules of honor and fairness... getting all upset and outraged when they don't.  Things do not mean the same to them as they do to us... even the value of life is different, its not that its cheaper for them its just that death is more valuable in their view...  How can you scare someone who wants to die?  Anyway  great post and like Corbin I wonder where you are heading :-)  Be well  xoxoxo

Naut...why should we be upset with your assessment?
We were able to use asymmetrical warfare in the Revolution that started out country.   I hope I'm not jumping ahead.....but the problems we now have with an adversary using their strategies is heightened by too many outside influences on our side stifling our war efforts.....imagine what would have happened if we had had the news media back in 1776.

I am intrigued with where you're headed with this......

Excellent read.
I have the complete series of Fawlty Towers and you are right, it is priceless. "Don't mention the war. I did it once, but I think I got away with it." funny! I enjoy reading you thoughts.

I go along with Wiley. It would be nice to have you respond to some of the comments as some of them seem great; an answer with the comment would clarify a lot for me I think. I don't believe anyone can win this war; however, I haven't any idea what an asymmetrical war is. This country is a button that may push mushrooms of Muslims all over the area.

Call it what you like, it is a war to lose just like the Russians and others before them. I'm really sorry you don't comment back to the comments, but I guess it's too much like work eh?

I don't see a happy ending.

I'm glad that you give us this in small doses so that I can digest it properly.  There is always something that I need to study into to make my understanding clearer.  I just spent quite a bit of time on "difficult terrain".  (Photo from wikimedia)

Naut, I would not be too concerned with anyone re: this war on terror.  It now speaks volumes for itself.  Perhaps it has always been this way.  Ignore...ignore...ignorant. joab

Agreed Kabu, Afghanistan or Vietnam equally hopeless. Nobody seems to be mentioning the plight of the Pakistanis in this particular debate. The war is affecting them; suicide bombings in their cities are an every day occurrence.

This has become for me a must read when you post.
I agree, call the war in Afghanistan whatever you want.....it is unworkable and we are mostly unwanted and our boys are dying .....it is all just so like Vietnam.....lets pull out. Is the man strong enough to take the lead the rest of the allies are waiting for?
