Thank you for your view. Every word of the Bible is from God. The Olivet discourse or the totality of the Sermon on the Mount is not the sum total of His word. Picking a passage leaves so many people to believe bits and peaces such as sleeping under a quilt square and not the whole quilt.
If all who believes that and espouses it strongly actually lived by that there would be no divorce or anger thus no war among those would there?
Excellent piece you have here. You are learned in the Bible I do read your work. But the words of Jesus are not the God given entirity of the New Testament except for that passage you speak of and the parables, I do believe all else and maybe those as well are quotes from the Prophets of the Old Testament.

Jews, Christians and Muslims all revere the same God.

As long as religion is around, like it has been, there will always be a variety of views. I hear so many speak of Jesus, yet very few repeat what He says! I ascribe to the Lord and I try to live up to this which comes from the sermon on the Mount: "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy: but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you, that ye may be of the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust." I believe wholeheartedly in Jesus and He is telling me in Scripture to love everyone! Have a nice day! I do wish Christians would repeat what Jesus says instead of their interpretation, for His words say it much more eloquently than anyone I know! I hope you have a great day! sam
