I think the mainstream media is a lot like most of us...
these days they don't use common sense and judgment, they look for the easy interview, the shell-shocked witness, and they ask inane questions. They literally hop up and down like a flock of hens when they see the shadow of a chicken hawk, stirring up the dust and saying nothing.
My sense of it is the guy had a death wish, he figured there were guns everywhere and someone would take him out. He'd been neck deep in the stress, the fear, grief and anger of the vets he was treating for so long it took him over. Pour that through his religious filter and you've got tragedy waiting to happen. Tell him he's being deployed, and you've pulled the trigger.
