I definitely would want to learn the language of wherever I am living...At least it gets to where people do learn it. The first generation may not, but subsequent generations do tend to.

Re:
I took Latin in high school, never learned it, but there are classes for that especially if you are going to become a citizen.

When you move to another country you need to try and learn the language. Without language skills you risk isolation and exploitation.
However it is often easier said than done. Unless you are talented with regard to learning languages, it can take a long time. Have you ever tried to learn a foreign language?

Lustorlove,
I don't want to get on my soap box about this but I'll just say that I really wish they made it mandatory for all immigrants to have to learn at least basic English to get their citizenship. I really think too many of them are catered to by living here these days. I also think it is rude, lazy and cocky for them not to even try to learn at least enough to get through a common, simple conversation in English. For the ones who choose not to learn, screw them if they get ripped off or taken advantage of. It's their own fault.

I spent timein Greece but could never learn the language I have no aptitude
so I would hate to migrate to a country with another language than English.
