'Drone' would be a mild way to put it.....! Those people got a lot of slave labor out of us! Oh well, it built character...or something.....! Thank you, elinjo!

That does not surprise me, having read your posts! They say everyone's a comedian, but it's not for the faint of heart!!! I do envy your 'baby' title, however, as the 2nd oldest I always wished I were the youngest...! Lucky!

Hugs to you too, sister! That's funny; Taps mentioned about the cold food, too...and you two are sooo right....it WAS always cold...I'd forgotten that aspect of it.... Our house was cold, generally, too, so you'd think a person would pray briefly and get on with it....but when all the world's a stage...no such luck! It (prayer) means something to me now...what a privilege to be able to express a heartfelt thanks.

That's very interesting to me...I wonder why. Some people don't feel comfortable at all praying. My mother said she'd never had a prayer in her home until much later in her life, and had never once prayed. I was raised differently so I can't picture that. Thanks so much for reading, Justi!

Thank you for this very amusing account. I loved the way you described yourself as a 'drone'.

So you never got to eat a nice hot meal. OMG what wonderful parents I was
blessed with. We said Grace sposmatically, farming people busy on the go. It actually meant something then when we thanked God for our blessings. I love the Pompand circumstance description. and this post just makes me want to hug you.

Actually I never heard my father pray. We never missed a service at church but we only said grace when someone special came.

Ah ha ha! Yep! He would always say, "Please bless this food for its intended use" (I'm wondering what else we could have used it for???) But as a little kid, I always thought he said, "Intenda Juice"...and for years I wondered what that was....!

You must have always had cold food to eat if he prayed that long.  LOL.  My father's prayer at mealtime always ended up being exactly the same and we all had it memorized word for word, inflections and accentuations exactly the same as his.  But, we couldn't pray it aloud because he would know we were making fun of him.
