I'm a wimp when it comes to physical pain
which is why childbirth was excruciating. Plus I was induced and my cervix wouldn't open so my labor was accelerated but without progress (they had to reverse the pitocin). Funny thing is that when I finally decided to get the epidural (I had been so convinced that I should go "au naturel"), my body did what it was supposed to and 8 hours later my daughter was born, though it was a close call to a c-section. They gave me one last push (and used the vacuum) and out she came (her heart rate had been going down, so that's why they were ready to cut me open if that final try didn't work). She was perfectly healthy--praise God! And now I'm even willing to give childbirth another try, but I'm definitely getting the epidural right off the bat instead of waiting 8 hours (my total labor was 16 hours).

From my experience (somebody HOLD me back)
1. The noisy ones don't die (always).
2. Things go black when you die. When you pass out they go grey or red. When you hit the brain with a huge pain impulse, and the attendant epinephrine and hyperventilatory intake of air, you see white.
Or, when it snows.
Ice and elevate. Compression is good too but ice it immediately as long as you can stand it. Squeezing at the base of the finger (acting as a venous tourniquet) makes it throb like a motherfroghugger; hold it straight up and boogey to the refrig.
