Re: Interesting.
That makes another brilliant story, doesn't it? I tell you, inspiration lurks even in the graveyard!

Interesting.
I wonder if the special guard would have been running his ass off on a windy night. "Ding, ding!" "Oh, shit another damn bell!" Old Gus mumbled. He swung around trying to pin-point which grave was "ringing". "Damn, if would have to be the one on top of the hill, shit!" So, old Gus, picks up his trusty shovel and heads up the hill, navigating various tombstones as he hobbles up. Finally he arrives at the top. The ringing has ceased. Gus sits on the gravestone of Mary Harrision. He reads the inscription, "Here lies the body of Mary Harrision. loving wife and mother of fifteen; 1701 - 1730. "15 kids!" Gus says incredulously, "No wonder she died." Another bell rings and Gus once again pricks his ears.

I'm not sure I would have wanted that job either. I guess I would have just run into town and tell somebody to get their relative out.

Very interesting my friend... I guess they had no way of verifying brain death back then... That is probably the origin of the wakes as well... and why there is usually a wait of 24 hours before a burrial in some cultures. Thanks for sharing that my trivia queen :-) xoxoxo

I had never heard that expression before. Your explanation was very interesting. 'Graveyard shift' would be a fine title for a really grotesque horror story .....
