Can You Entertain Another Reason?

Our 7 year old son does not like his second grade class. Why? He came to us and told us that none of the others likes what he does and is not like he is. We asked him what did he mean by that? What we found out is that he has nothing in common with his other classmates at all. Wonder why? When we say our nightly prayers with our children, we ask that they do as the Lord desires and treat other as they would like to be treated. We constantly tell them to be nice to all of their classmates which our children do because their teachers have told us so and they have received recognition for this very topic. However, the end result is that our son does not have anything in common with his classmates. When we ask him who he considers who his friends are, the answer is always members of his Sunday School class.

Now for a few facts:

Our son, another boy and one girl are the only white children in his class of 12. There are two second grades in his school. The other racial breakdown is 4 Hispanic and 5 black children.

We attend a Baptist church which also has a Hispanic church as well that is physically next to our sanctuary. The reason for that is that the Hispanics requested a seperate church service. This did not start out this way. We were all one. In my son's class he is one of 16 children and all are white. We do have black members of our church and have been open to races all for 27 years. Our daughter's experiences are the same as our son's.

So there you have it. Have you ever considered the fact that for whatever reason there is a natural desire towards your own race and that is just the way it is? I know you have considerd this but due to your profession you have been drilled to think only one way. I know many teachers including my sister-in-law so I do know what I am talking about here. All of them see it. I would like to hear your comments on this truth.
