Sometimes I play a Solitaire while thinking, or walk. I believe in writing from where you are, because where you are is where you are, and it seems to good later when something is written.

I'm glad you are writing your way through the block, Pat.  Azur's advice to write from where you are, is very interesting.  I think I'll be doing a lot of it next month.

Whenever I have writer's block, it's really because I'm not happy with some aspect of what I've written or what I have planned. There's a character that doesn't fit or a plot hole large enough to drive a truck through and I haven't figured out how to fix it. The old saying, when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you do is stop digging, comes into play and I can't proceed until the problem is solved.

I don't care what Missy Azur says, I cannot write when I'm slumping.  All I can do in a slump at the PC is play FreeCell, MahjongTitans or Poppit and let my mind run free.

Re: Pat.
That sounds like very sound advice Ian. Good luck Pat! Glad to know that the sessions at the computer help.

Pat.
I think you are an extraordinary writer. Your poem a few days ago was wonderful. As for Ms Block screwing up your thoughts, I recommend doing what I do, take a notebook and write down everything you see and hear. When you go to the suprmarket, write down the banter between the checkout person and the customer. Wherever you are, that notebook will give you so many ideas, angles, and dialogue you'll wonder how you lived without it. Now bear in mind, that there will be times when the notebook can stay at home on the computer table, and so it should. But I believe you can beat writer's block - simply because you have talent. To you I say, WRITE ON!
