So am I. I even find myself apologizing to my son when I smack him on the arm in fun when he's said something silly...very sensitive to it now. That's okay! Thanks for reading, mariposa!

I'm also glad that you broke the habit of hitting.

That's interesting to me; today in my Child Development class the theory was taught that children of hitters become hitters...but there were so many of us in there shaking our heads in objection...Thank you for reading!

So are my kids, FSI. It's interesting the moments you think are ordinary, but you think of them years later, and they turn out to be pivitol. Thank you for reading.

Very funny, sweet with a bit of acidity in it!

I vaguely remember the odd whack on the behind, but never thought of it as hitting, more as a reminder...regardless, I haven't practiced even that, neither with my kids nor my pets...

I'm glad you were able to break the trend.

Thank you for reading! Sorry to disappoint you on the baseball thing...maybe next time!

Having just read another blog with a sports theme,
I thought it would be, maybe, something about baseball, so your story was a bit disconcerting.  Glad, though, that you and your mom so the absurdity of hitting those you supposedly love, putting an end to it.

I don't know if I was being wise at fifteen; just impatient with getting whacked...it hurt!

Sam; that makes me absolutely admire you. I am reading about a man that spent 4 weeks in the Betty Ford Center and had no idea just how insidious alchohol can be to a soul. It's funny; in thinking about it now, I had no notion of breaking any chains; I was just tired of getting beat up...we just never know when one of our days will change the course of our lives, and that of our offspring. Makes me think that each day really IS a gift. Thank you so much, Sam.

Me, too. I've said before that I learned from my parents what not to do....I'm sure my children are learning what not to do from me, as well! They always joke about their 'secret therapy fund'...to recover from the throes of being raised by me...! Silly teenagers!

Yep! We couldn't help laughing, either...I still laugh thinking about it. It looked really dumb... Thank you, adnohr!

Thank you, abanerjee; your comment made me think to myself that most things in life come back around, whether they be for good or for ill...I appreciate that food for thought.

How wise of you to change the family's tradition!

I have always said that it takes a child to stop the chain of bad things in the family! In mine, I gave them the charge to avert alcoholism! Good for you to break the chain so that your children would not have to go through it! sam

LOL - this is extemely well done. I couldn't help laughing at the sight (in my mind) of you both sissie-hitting. Loved your ending too.

Oh well My Mum slapped my legs on the odd occasion and
I did the same with mine. No one ever got injured...except for some over the top pride.

Hello Darson
The beauty of hitter story which I liked was that the first and the last came together. Good!

You are too kind; thank you very much! I'm a great believer in the beauty of boundaries...nice to see that I am not alone. Blogit has been good for me that way. Thank you for reading, my friend.

I simply adore your blog ~ this is a neat story...an awareness - drawing boundaries (even though with a limp wrist) - I like your summation ~ your children do not!  ~ Elyse
