I worked in the streets for 4 years, and agree that many found there are plagued with some type of mental disability. It is so sad, and we just can't seem to find the answer.....

It's a modern trend here to let the mentally sick live in the community - and receive community psychiatric care; that's the theory anyway. In practice it does not work as well as it should and they are left to their own devices. It's very sad.

This is very important stuff to think about
I just think that we look at the mentally ill as taboo because we just dont understand it. I remember when I was a psych major one of the professor had said that psychology was like a religion, nobody really has it down. and things we dont understand we tend to taboo.

Good post.
I am currently studying psychology and this question has been brought up in classrooms time and time again...what are we going to do with and for the growing number of mentally ill? Telling them to snap out of it is like telling someone with a heart condition to suddenly 'be well!' A thought provoking topic, to be sure. Thank you.

wonderful post darling and very compassionately written
So many of the mentally ill find themselves in jail where they don't belong either. Just as they don't on the streets.

My goodness, the numbers are staggering! I don't know why they are shunned! But anyone who isn't in the 'norm, tongue in cheek, end up shunned! sam
