Shobana

I think many of us have probably had our lives impacted by an alcoholic or a person battling addiction – it can create such turmoil and heartache for the people watching the self destruction.

This is so vivid and powerful; wonderful expression of a common and major problem. Thanks very much for your visit! Yes, this is the "festival time" of the year!

My Shobana, you have addressed a very real topic! I was married to an alcoholic and this poem is so reflective of  the trials and tribulations associated with it! The symptoms are familiar to all, the difficulties it causes! I was glued and it is one fine effort! You continue to grow as a poet and I must say I am very proud of you! You take on a variety of subjects and that just enhances growth tremendously for me! It might be time to start thing about writng different forms of poetry, the great ones all went through it! Some are fun and others are downright difficult to write! The bottom line is that it serves to hones the skills of the poet. Your sam!!!

Expreseed so powerfully, effectively, aptly, and most tellingly, of the hearts of the near and dear ones of the 'ail' in the alealley.

Alcoholism is a disease; is prevelant in my blood line so I could re-live some major events while reading your poem here.  Very very real and sad; sad for many.  This is palpable which leaves this reader reeling.  I commend you for writing this.   and I so appreciate the proverb that Taps wrote in her response...it is so true.  ~Elyse

Who are the people who are always crying the blues?
Who do you know who reeks of self-pity?
Who keeps getting beat up for no reason at all?
Whose eyes are bleary and bloodshot?
It's those who spend the night with a bottle,
for whom drinking is serious business.
Don't judge wine by its label,
or its bouquet, or its full-bodied flavor.
Judge it rather by the hangover it leaves you with—
the splitting headache, the queasy stomach.
Do you really prefer seeing double,
   with your speech all slurred,
Reeling and seasick,
   drunk as a sailor?
"They hit me," you'll say, "but it didn't hurt;
they beat on me, but I didn't feel a thing.
When I'm sober enough to manage it,
   bring me another drink!"

Sad -- but there are so many addictions that cloud reason and affect more lives than that of the addicted. Good write! Thank you for sharing. Peace, blessings and understanding.~SS

to be waiting on a person that may or may not make it home that night. Very touching and thought provoking. I'm actually saying a little prayer in my mind right now for whomever it was that you wrote about.
