The the electricity board here would issue a warning before turning off the electricity.

With regard to candles and fires, I had a nasty experience some years ago. We light candles a lot in this country, not to economize but to create a cosy atmosphere. I put one on the windowsill once and it burnt up too high and set fire to the roller-blind. Luckily I managed to put out the fire before it spread, but the blind was a write-off. Since then I have been very, very careful about candles.

I think we get some leeway over here. The company would not be permitted to cut anyone off without a few weeks warning. We're quite well protected.

In the fall of 2003 ill my mother forgot to pay the oil bills. In the fall the heat went off. I got her a judgment for her age. With the help of a neighbor I switched to a smaller oil company that filled it half full each month. BC-A, Bill’s Roost
