Re: A lovely piece Abanerjee!
Hi lindo, do come back for a read, you'll find it quite well done by Gray - tracing a sweeping account of the history of poetry. I am happy that so many have commended my post on this topic I attempted to write, but was not quite at first sure whether it'll be so well received by my readers. People like yourselves make this effort of mine worth its while and much as I know of you, you too write with all your heart. Thank you. Hope your trip to London with Adam was fruitful.

Re: Sallies of the Soul
Sallies of the soul BC-A, works indeed even when our chips are down. Isn't that a good expression? Thank you so much for your continued visits and interest.

Sallies of the Soul
So Thomas Gray observes that poetry, with its power of harmony can calm the turbulent sallies of the soul love. It also works in our looser time as well.  BC-A, Bill’s Roost

Very interesting and well written, as always! Thanks for the generous "tag" for my blog....not quite deserving of it!

A lovely piece Abanerjee!
I was too sick to read the original poem, but I have to come back and read it. Tracing the history of poetry seemed a bit contrived at first, but from the way you explained it, this is not really the case. I can't imagine a more challenging topic but this proves that if you are writing with all your heart you can achieve true sincerity ( did that make any sense, coz I think the cold medicine is kicking in).

C'mon, Tzippy ... you are no less a writer yourself. Thanx to you too, and if you have found my humble contribution/s having done some good in bringing you any motivation, I feel it worth the effort.

Re: yellowrose55
Yes, this is one perfect example by Gray on the Pindaric Ode. Oh, we are all here to learn and share. Good writing comes from involved reading of course. You too are good. What I lack in poetry, I try making up from writing about ~ poetry. .

Re:
Yes Soul, this one is a sweeping account of Gray's history of poetry. Hindi film songs are indeed very evocative and lyrical, especially the ones of the days of the yore.

Re: sam
I am so glad that a poetess of your standing should be saying that about learning quite a bit. I think I'll do a bit more on the Ode, tonight, and yes, a big thank you to you.

Re: Shobana
It gladdens me that you liked my narration and this eggs me on to do better and better. It (encouragement) sure does hone one's writing skills, one reason for my being in Blogit. Thank you .

Re: Nileangel
It's a coincidence that the word 'Muse' was used by you and I simultaneously. I'll come and see your poetry on this.

I'll be sure to check out more of Thomas Gray's poetry. Beauty and emotion pour from this poem. There is still so much I have to learn about writing. And much of it involves reading.

Very historical. I dare say that I have found the perfect poets in hindi films of yore but never in the western crop of pretenders. Thats because western civilization has been hijacked for over 2,000 years!

I loved the beginning line. What a muse poetry truly is. It's funny you used the word muse because I started writing a poem today on that very topic.
