Well, wherever it is, you put me there and made me part of it for the time I was reading your post. We have a similar market in my area, and I can spend hours browsing through it! Your cookbook souvenir is a great idea! Maybe add little stories about the different recipes?

Re: I looked up Mundane...

Mundane is another word for Boring.  Dull.  Slow. Here on Blogit it substitutes for the real name of the town. When I used to be a chatroom monitor for AOL, I was trained not to give my real name or location online. 99.9% of all people are ok, but there's always that one potentially dangerous stalker out there.

In our neck of the woods, Goshen refers to the promised land, the good place.

Enjoyable reading Pat!Memphis looked up Goshen and I looked up Mundane; I couldn't find anything at all about it . Your market sounds fun and you painted a vivid picture of the people and the wares. Your idea of writing a cookery book is splendid. People in general have forgotten or perhaps never learnt how to cook a meal from basic ingredients.

Wonderful post!  Made me feel as if I were there.  Made me wish that I was.  I like all of your ideas.  Veggies cook up so perfect in those plastic bags in the microwave.   I stopped using my steamer when I found one could do that so easily.

I can't ger over how interesting your post was... I found myself riveted to it and your idea of a booth selling ideas to use all that good food is beyond excellent!  The little booklet people could take home as a souvenir is also a great thing!  You are on fire my friend :-)  Be well xoxo

Pat

Love it! And Mundane sounds idyllic! And you made me look up Goshen!

You see, when I was living in Antigonish, NS, just down the road there's this place called Goshen. Not big - if you're driving and blink, you'll miss it. And I always thought it was a Celtic name, 'cause most things around there are. Although 'Antigonish' is not, of course, bu a Mikmaq name.

So I looked up Goshen, because that's what your market is called and, to my surprise, this is what it says in Wikipedia:

"From Genesis 45:10, Goshen appears to have been a part of Egypt near the palace of Joseph's Pharaoh, in the Nile Delta, who resided part of the year at Memphis."

Live and learn...
