Rush hour on the Montreal 'metro' subway is very close to your description of London. You are hoping your deodorant is still working - or even more, that all those people wedged against you put their deodorant on too, LOL.

I need to be clearer in what I am saying --
I loved it the experience. The rush was fun and the people so kind. If anything, I think us tourists should avoid the tube so we do not disrupt the Londoners stride.

Having lived and worked it London traveling by tube in the rush hour was something I got used to. Running up and down the escalators and hoping to grab a seat so I could read a paperback or newspaper was just something I took in my stride. But yes, you're right it is part of the London experience that tourists should best avoid.
