It looks a fabulous house both inside and out. Can't help with the technology, I'm afraid, but hope it works out for you.

Bill, cable seems not to be an option at this rural house.
At least the dishes are already installed, for two satellite companies.

So I guess they’re the satellite companies love. Chances are they offer high speed internet. It’s worth it to ask, as well as to inquire about cable service. In any event it’s a matter of cost. I ended up with cable. I didn’t want the satellite company to put a dish on the roof of my landlady. She flipped out at the technician in the vacant apartment to install the ground cable. So consider all the oprions and realities. You’re welcomed, ha. BC-A, Sgt. Bill Pepper’s RJJst

Re: Re: hughes.net is very good!
I'm not sure about the package. I know it costs around $160. Canadian per month (tax included), but the technician we use at the office ordered it.I told him I wanted something FAST, and with no problems, so I expect it is the biggest package. He did the ordering, all the installation, etc. Fortunately, because I do need it to link to my office server, the company pays part of the monthly bill. Even if I had to pay myself, it is worth every penny. My cousin had it installed too (she lives in rural Ontario) and has never had a problem either. Her setup is about $40/month less expensive than mine. I'll try to get the info for you.

Mal, I'm in Washington State, but I will look it up.

Ciel - are you in Oregon?  Check out Verizon Fios, which works through the phone lines.  Mal

Re: hughes.net is very good!
Thanks, adnohr!  This is exactly the kind of thing I need to know about!  Which package do you have?  I noticed that they offer different levels of service, relating to download/upload speeds.

hughes.net is very good!
Be careful!! Because my rural area does not offer cable, I had Xplornet installed - they promised all kinds of speed, etc. It was the PITS! No service, excuses, and I ended up having it all taken down (now they're trying to get me to honor a contract for a year's service when all I received was one month...a very poor reception it was!!). I had hughes.net installed and love it, love it, love it! It is fast (nearly as good as high speed), cheaper than xplornet, and it has never gone offline - even in thunder storms. It is more expensive than cable of course, but that's the cost of rural living, and I find it worth very penny!!
