Re: Ash Pradhan - I believe...
that entering / staying in a country undocumented does need to be appropriately treated by the law authorities. However, rude / disrespectful, let alone inconsiderate / inhumane, treatment is not civil, and certainly nor representative of a civilized nation. Glenn, it's good that you are raising people's awareness / consciousness without pretending to have all the answers or personalizing your criticism. Perhaps some others here & elsewhere will learn to do that too. Past is past, but to refuse to grow & mature is subhuman. Take care!

Ash Pradhan
You are always a welcomed and reasonded responder to my muddled words. Thanks for the kind reflections of what they mean. I do share your thoughts on the status or lack of status in our adherence to our core values as we interact on a Global stage. Bill Clinton went to North Korea to gain the release of two journalist who had in fact violated North Korean territory. Why did he have to show such outward disgust with the leader of North Korea? Was that for the home audience? Was it necessary? How many people are locked up, deported, right here in this great democracy for entering this country undocumented?
Do I share your hopes yes? Will they ever be realized?

Glenn...
That's hard to say, but let's hope not! Admission requires realization, which in turn requires soul searching. A positive outcome has been that so many have had to take a break from our fast lives to do some soul searching both individually & collectively. Racial relations is also an important issue that has been swept under the rug for a long time. Reminds me of the ancient India where the Brahmins wouldn't even let the shadow of so-called untaouchables fall on them. Today they hold equal posts in industry & government. American society has remained backward in issues of spirituality, universality, equality, but the recent events are forcing soul-searching which is good. Keep writing from your heart, you are a talented writer.

Ash Pradhan,
"Solution" would require an admission to war crimes. We escaped Vietnam, after the pain and numbers became too perverted for the masses. Will this excursion follow a similar slope? Thanks for the look.

There is much flawed in your assumptions. Labeling "occupations" war is a convenient mechanism that perpetuates injustice. I am not sure who will rescue Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and remove the occupiers from their lands. Or must they tolerate the fate that consumed other civilizations? Liberation means liberated not subjugated.

The balance of deployment and the protection of civilians and infrastructures delayed the end of the wars, the Middle East without End. Your post expresses a very legitimate issue. Pray for President Obama in this matter. BC-A, Bill*s Cyberspace Hotlink

Sam444,
We have come to a critical point in this debate. It will be up to President Obama. However, absent our help I think it will too convenient to continue the madness. He may not be up to the task of confronting and altering a very corrupt paradigm. Sam my Prayers are with you. God Speed.

I always appreciate your commentary! As a mother of a soldier I would love it if he would refuse to deploy, but his love for his country will never allow him to do that! I pray that President Obama, Commander in Chief, makes the decisions to the very best of his ability for my son's and other mothers' sons lives depend on it! War is hell and I as an individual pray for peace and our President! sam
