Re:
I dont know but to live here decently you need a retirement fund and a pension, and I am in one of the most expensive states.  I wanted a place of my own before I retired as I didnt want to rent any longer, so of course its more expensive but as I get older and my kids do to I will move into a cheaper place

I pass on this one. It is so difficult to advise people on financial issues especially when they live in a different country. In my country people get by even though they only have a state pension. Perhaps this does not apply to pensioners in the U.S.A.

Re:

I wish I had an annuity. You are better off spending to live longer!

Lustorlove - I don't know how the system works there but if you can work..why not. It will keep you occupied and stop you thinking of what will happen in 15-20 years...like dying??

I myself would work for now. Another thing to take into account as well is that you may find something else worth doing.

that is the way I understand it but my financial advisor is trying to get my money to last, who knows how long I will be alive

You have to live in the now. Not that I would advocate blowing every last penny, but use what you need now and let the future look after itself. IMHO!

Re: Re:
I guess I tend toward live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself--as long as one doesn't go overboard on that and use it up in riotous living.

I face a lot of those same thoughts for myself and for my own situation.  I have no idea what choices you should make for you.  I do know that anxiety about the situation doesn't help one whit and that sometimes advice from someone else is the worst thing of all.  Most of all, I know that I haven't helped you out one iota.  Good luck in doing it right for you.
