- Go to Free Range Parenting
Even within a family (I have five children), one child is so different from the other. Instead of across the board "free range" parenting, I just try to be in tune with each child and what is best for THEM personally. I don't think that kind of parenting has a name. This was a great post. I will be back.

In principle free-range parenting is sensible, but like so many other things you've got to use your common-sense. What is acceptable freedom in one case is totally unacceptable in another; it depends on the environment and on the child.
Being overprotective covers a multitude of sins. E.g. it is over protective to prevent a three year old from taking part in cooking a meal for fear that he or she might cut their fingers. In a case like this it may mean that the parent does not want the hassle of involving the child in the family's everyday life.
You've introduced a very, very interesting topic.
