Even in the middle east, if you study history, they are no where near as immoral as they were several centuries ago. Violence, oppression, mistrust and misery are not as rampant anywhere as they used to be. In the last few hundred years the whole of this planet has become much more moral on so many levels.

Although I see no reason to think that the world is coming to an end and in no way accept fundamentalist ideologies I do not really agree with your reasoning. You seem to be concentrating on the situation in the U.S.A., which may or may not be more moral now than it was a century ago. However if you look beyond your borders what do you see in many parts of the world? Violence, oppression, mistrust and misery are rampant. Modern man has indeed used technology to destroy very effectively and very brutally.
